Flags at Speed Events

Few flags are used in Speed events. The one most likely to be used is the Red Flag and this is displayed if a driver on track in front of you has an incident that means he is blocking the track, unable to continue or dropping fluids or there is debris on track. You must slow or stop immediately until a course marshal signals that it is safe to continue. The session will be halted until the incident is cleared. All drivers on track with uncompleted runs will eventually be allowed to return to the start when you will almost certainly be granted a rerun. This may be immediate or you may have to join the queue; in some case you may be encouraged to ‘jump’ the queue although it is not always possible on some tracks. During practice, if you catch the driver in front but complete your run, a rerun may not be granted. The organisers will notice drivers that are particularly slow or indeed much faster than those in the same group and for Sprint events will arrange the running order so that everyone has a clear run. The Yellow incident flag used in circuit racing will NOT be used; however, although a chequered flag may be used at the finish line; a pair of chequered boards mounted on opposite sides of the track is more usual.
